Ideas Of Our Opening Sequence

Idea 1 -
My film is a bit similar to the movie "Adulthood" the way a very close friend of a gangster dies and a gang are out to find and hunt the murderers. The gangster is out to look for the murderers. Then the gangster finds the killer, He then asks who else was involved in the murder to find out as much as possible. And just when the friend is about to get the answer a person shot murderer from the back, leaving the friend not knowing anything about the murder. There is also a flash back which the actor see's when he is missing his brother. In this flash back he see's how his brother was murdered by rival gangsters. By doing this it gives a hint to the audience and explains what this film is about.

Idea 2:
In this film, there's is an gangster who wakes up one morning and checks his wallet and there is nothing in there. It shows him getting ready and taking to his friend how he's going to rob someone today because he's ran out of money. Then he gets a person in headlock and tells him to give all the money and he punches him back but the gangster punches him even harder and gets the money out of him. The person who got mugged punches the gangster again and then gangster takes his gun out and shots him and run away.

Film Opening Conventions Essay On Adulthood With Respect To The Four Technical Codes

The genre of my film opening is going to be Gangster. I have looked at Adulthood which is also Gangster genre film to help me out with camera, sound, mise en scene and editing techniques. Non-diegetic sound was used within two minutes in Adulthood.
The sound used was grime which goes well with the Adulthood scene because it’s fast music. The people that sing grime music are usually also gangster so it goes well with the scene. The dialogue used by the characters are used with an accent, this is makes the film seem more realistic and would be unsuccessful without dialogues.
Frequent cuts were taken to show energy in the scene, which covered many people dancing. Establish shot to show what is going on in the scene. Different angles were shown to give audience the best view of the action covered.  Usually medium shot or long shot to show loads of people in a group and everyone is busy with something for example, one person is drinking alcohol and another person is smoking cigarettes or weed.
The costume used by the gangster character was baggy cloth, long t-shirts, long chains, flat caps, recognisable branded trainers and clothing, hoodies, expensive jewellery. The character in this film also had different sort of weapon on them to fight, scare, steal people and also to protect them from others. The weapons used in the movie are knives and guns. The characters in this movie also used drugs for their personal pleasure. Most characters in the film are disrespectful and harmful to the local community. In the first opening two minutes one character shot a person on his leg when he trying to steal. Also the gangsters’ characters are crowded with girls all around. The area used in the movie is an urban area. Characters are also shown dancing around in a party.
Slow motion to cover all the action on the screen and to get the audience involved emotionally. Fast motion was also used which made the scene seems like things are happening fast. Close up shots to show reaction on characters face when the girl rejected the gangster. Many wipe shots to also explain that things are moving on. Showing two scenes at once on screen also made the film look busy and interesting.

Introducing Myself

Hi my name is Shahroz Ahmed, I am a media student at a 6th form school. I like watching action, comedy and gangster movies. My favourite films are Inception, The fighter, Hangover, Avatar 3D, Step up 3D and Adulthood. Part of my media studies coursework is to make a 2 minute film opening and this blog will show the process I take making my film opening. I am intrested in doing a gangster genre film opening. I'm going to be filming, acting and editing the film, while Sohil Kapoor who is in my group will be the camera men of the film and Argun is going to help me play a role in the film as well.
