Film Opening Conventions Essay On Kidulthood With Respect To The Four Technical Codes

The genre of my film opening is going to be Gangster. I have looked at Kidulthood which is also Gangster genre film to help me out with camera, sound, mise en scene and editing techniques. Non-diegetic sound was used within two minutes in Adulthood.
The non-diegetic sound that was used in film was remixed RnB and a suspicious sound as someone is spying on a person.
There was also diegetic sound of people playing and shouting each others name out, all this diegetic sounds makes seem like an urban place because you can hear loads of people at once. There were plenty of people swearing in the movie, this is because most of the gangster swears frequently. The dialogue used by the characters are used with an accent, this is makes the film seem more realistic and would be unsuccessful without dialogues.
Frequent cuts were taken to show energy in the scenes and to show all the action which is going on. Different angles were shown to give audience the best view of the action covered.  Usually medium shot or long shot to show loads of people in a group and everyone is busy with something for example; one person texting on his mobile and another person is giving away leaflets for their party.
The costume used in this was particular shown in the first 2 minutes because all the students were in uniform but still one was wear a new era cap which the gangsters usually wear.
Nearly all the male character in the film got an angry face on them and all of them got attitude which also makes the film seem more realistic. One character is also shown kissing a girl in opening 2 minutes.

Slow motion to cover all the action when it shows person drilling with football. Zoom in and close up shot on people to show their facial reaction and to help audience pick up their facial reaction when the person is utilising the machine with care and concentrating. There are many characters doing something different with in 2 minutes to show that the school is busy and interesting for example; two characters is kissing each other, another two characters are handing out leaflet, different character is looking for someone and going around asking if they seen Claire and two more characters talking to each other about their life.

Opening Scene Of “Four Brothers”

The genre of the movie “Four Brothers” is action/gangster and is the same genre as my group are doing for the opening film scene of my movie. There are many types of camera shots, sound, mise en scene and not much editing techniques used in the first 5 minutes of the extract from “four brother”. In the first couple of seconds it shows a two shot, where it has two cars pulling up and it shows a lady pulling up out of one and does not show who is in the other. There is then a close up when is shows the lady is stopping the car and then is about to get out. An establishing shot showing us that it is an off licence little shop also showing us that the man is getting on the phone to ring up the police. There is then another two shot showing the lady to say stop or put down the phone in a gesture because the boy is apoligising.
Another over the shoulder shot is used when the lady is telling the boy off for attempting to shoplift, another over the shoulder shot is used after that showing the boy’s reaction’s which is also a reaction shot. There is then another two shot where the boy is saying “I wont steal anymore sir” again showing his reactions showing us that he is very sorry and nervous. There is then another wide shot being shown when the lady tells the boy to get out. There is a close up of one of the robbers lips when he shouts “now” showing that he wants the money from the till. There is then another over the shoulder shot on of the robbers putting a gun towards the man behind the tills. There is then a two shots showing the man grabbing the money and the gun that is being aimed at the man. The calm scene at the start and an action scene insistently shows the contrast between two scenes and this makes the audience decide instantly what actor are on good side and what actor are on bad side.

The mise en scene used in this extract are casual clothes and other bits of clothing like the skull hat that the boy is wearing and the balaclava the two robbers are wearing this signifies that they are both robbers. There are also guns used. The lighting used in this scene is from a normal light bulb. The acting throughout is very serious and some bits where it shows that they are scared. There are then lights coming from the gunshot when the two robbers find the lady and shoot her.

The sound used is There is diegetic music that starts playing in the first car that pulls up. Serious dialogue is used almost throughout the extract and then there is a scream showing that the lady is scared. The gunshot is a non diegetic sound where it shows the gun is being fired when a light starts flashing through the window.
